Advanced Fire Engineering – Maritime and Energy is a growing department in a large Danish organization focused on fire safety and security. We continue our impact-making journey in the energy and transportation sectors, working to promote a safe and fast transition of these sectors away from carbon-based fuels to contribute to addressing climate change. We do this by running R&D projects and serving customers in these industries. We demonstrate the potential of new technologies, work with authorities and the public to promote fair and safe adoption of technologies related to renewable energy, hydrogen, batteries, ammonia, methanol, container shipping, passenger transportation and much more.

We are looking for an experienced engineer in the field of battery technologies to strengthen our team.

About the role

As our new Battery Fire Specialist, you will provide expertise on Li-ion batteries and other upcoming technologies to the team. You will be part of projects performing risk analyses, battery fire tests, and fire safety design for clients and in R&D contexts.

You will be part of developing and managing our mobile battery fire testing set up, developing safe procedures, and ensuring uptime, performance, and data quality. You will lead the design and execution of battery fire tests including preparation, planning, implementation, and monitoring.

You will be a consultant in our projects related to battery fire and explosion safety, supporting the teams with expertise and technical guidance. You will assist our engineers performing fire simulations with your knowledge to provide accurate input to the simulations and increase their reliability.

Within projects, you will have contact with clients and partners, representing DBI for battery fire safety.

Your goal is to become a go-to person in the field of battery fire safety in the team. You will have to keep yourself updated on the progress of the field and keep developing your expertise.

Within your own field of expertise, you will act as a mentor for the team and can take on training for other team members.

You will report to one of the Team Leaders of the department.

Your main tasks will be:

  • Developing and managing our battery fire testing procedures.
  • Designing battery fire tests.
  • Providing, as a consultant, expertise to our team and partners.
  • Disseminating knowledge internally and externally.

What you need to succeed

We would like to see:

  • Creative, proactive, and organized problem solver who can work independently.
  • Comfortable working in a team.
  • Curious team member who likes a challenge.
  • Good verbal and written communication.

Your qualifications:

  • 5 years’ working experience in the field of batteries.
  • Minimum M.Sc. in electrical engineering, chemical engineering, or other relevant engineering education.
  • Excellent in both written and spoken English.

In addition, it would be beneficial if you:

  • have experience working with battery testing or battery fire testing.
  • have experience with battery failure modes through e.g. accident investigation, root cause analysis or other.
